Mrs. Margaret Jones was presented with a commemorative plaque in May by
the Mayor of Beaumaris Cllr. Martyn Pritchard, this award was presented in
recognition of her appointment to the post of Honorary Vice President of
Beaumaris Lifeboat Guild.
In January 2003 Margaret heard that she had been awarded the R.N.L.I. gold
badge for her long and devoted service.
Sadly Margaret died before this could be presented but there will be a
presentation to her family arranged sometime in the future. |
Harold Jones served on Beaumaris Lifeboat for many years and was coxswain
from 1966 to 1972. When he retired from the crew Harold and his wife
Margaret took over the running of the R.N.L.I. shop, the ordering of it's
stock and it's storage in their home until Harolds death in May 1997.
Margaret continued to help in the lifeboat shop until the end of the 2002
season.
Harold and his wife were a marvellous couple and dedicated to the lifeboat
cause. They were admired by everyone and are greatly missed. |
This R.N.L.I. gold medal awarded to Margaret Jones for her 35 years of
dedicated service to Beaumaris Lifeboat Station.
The presentation to Margaret's son Glyn took place at the annual R.N.L.I.
conference held in London in May 2003.
The medal was presented by the Duke of Kent.
Glyn was accompanied by his family at the ceremony.
Margaret who was one half of a fantastic couple would have been very
proud. |

A valuable job is also done by
opening up the boat house to enable people and groups of school children to
visit the Lifeboat Blue Peter 2 so named as it is the second boat of seven paid
for by the Television Programme "Blue Peter " funded by the " Pieces of eight
appeal This appeal was so successful that Blue Peter were able to buy seven
Lifeboats including the All Weather Lifeboat stationed at Fishguard. As well as
the Lifeboat the tractor has proved to be of great interest to everyone. The
present Atlantic 75 Lifeboat at Beaumaris is the third Blue Peter Boat to be
stationed here. The first was presented to the Station in 1986.
