Glyn Garth Flats. Holyhead Coastguard requested Beaumaris Lifeboat launch after receiving a call from a member of the public concerning a drifting Motor Cruiser off the Glyn Garth flats. The Coastguard mobile asked for lifeboat assistance to secure the vessel and make sure no one was aboard. The crew found that this vessel was padlocked to the remains of the mooring. A hacksaw was borrowed from the Gazelle Hotel to remove the mooring. The vessel was then towed to a mooring off the hotel and the owner contacted. |

Swellies A request from Holyhead Coastguard to launch Beaumaris lifeboat after receiving a call from the crew of a rib in the Swellies saying that they had found an abandoned canoe which was fully equipped including food A search was requested by the Coastguard in case the canoeist had become separated from his craft. Several other canoes then approached the rib who was staying with the empty canoe until the lifeboat arrived. They stated that the casualty canoe was one of theirs which had drifted off the beach on the rising tide. The launch of the lifeboat was then avoided. |

| Britannia Bridge Request from Holyhead Coastguard for Beaumaris Lifeboat to be held in immediate readiness after receiving a call from the Police stating that a male person was on the Britannia Bridge threatening suicide. The Lifeboat was later launched at the request of the Mobile Coastguard and stood off waiting developments. The Police negotiator eventually persuaded this individual to come off the bridge parapet and he was taken into custody. The lifeboat then returned to station. |

| Menai Bridge Beaumaris Lifeboat was requested to launch by Holyhead Coastguard after receiving a call from the Police stating that a male person was on the Menai Suspension Bridge. The Lifeboat stood by at St. Georges Pier until the Police persuaded this person, who had requested an ambulance and psychiatric assistance, to come down. It didn't last long with the prevailing weather conditions at the time. The Lifeboat returned to station. |

Moelfre had picked up the 26' yacht in Red Wharf Bay with both sail and engine problems. The Yacht with one person aboard was from Conwy but with a falling tide it was decided to take the casualty to a safe mooring in Beaumaris Bay. |

Island. Holyhead Coastguard requested Beaumaris Lifeboat launch after receiving a call from the yacht "Island Rose" whose skipper was reporting a female crewmember haemorrhaging and seeking medical advice. Medical advice was that this crew member should be evacuated ASAP. Three lifeboat crew boarded the yacht and gave oxygen to assist the casualty and readied the casualty for lifting by rescue helicopter 122 from R.A.F. Valley. The yachts cockpit was arranged to suit the requirements of the helicopter crew. After assisting the airlift the lifeboat recovered the crew and returned to station. |

When the lifeboat arrived at the casualties position it was apparent that it was too late to attempt to re-float her. The weather conditions were calm and the craft was in no danger so the lifeboat returned to station. |

| Lavan Sands Launch was requested from Holyhead Coastguard after receiving a call from the skipper of the yacht " Keep Smiling " stating that the yacht " Quay 3 " had run aground near B12 on a falling tide. The Lifeboat found the casualty out of the channel and put crewman Guy Williams aboard to attach the tow. Efforts to tow the vessel from the bank were initially unsuccessful. Guy Williams, using his sailing knowledge, set the yachts genoa and this was successful in heeling the yacht sufficiently to complete the re-floating. The casualty was then towed back to Menai Bridge as their engine was overheating. This yacht had been chartered that morning by a group of Cambridge students and were heading for the Isle of Man in a forecast force 8 ! |

When the lifeboat arrived on scene crewman Guy Williams was put aboard to establish the tow. No VHF - a mobile phone was used to call for assistance. This vessel was towed to Red Wharf Bay where the tow was passed to Moelfre's D class lifeboat. They took the vessel to Traeth Bychan where it was recovered. |

He had apparently tried on at least seven occasions before calling for assistance. Two of the crew Simon Bunting and Martin Broughton boarded the craft to assist with the mooring. |

The crew managed to retrieve the anchor and escorted this cruiser to Port Dinorwic as one engine on the vessel was disabled. The Lifeboat was then called to another vessel reported to be in difficulty near Britannia Bridge. |

Beaumaris This was a domestic incident in the early hours of the morning where 2 people finished up in the water from the sea wall after " celebrating " their engagement ! The female was picked up by the lifeboat 150 yards from the sea wall in a serious condition. She was given oxygen and resuscitated by the crew before being taken to hospital. Her partner who was aggressive was landed at the lifeboat station, interviewed by the Police and then taken to hospital. |

Lavan Sands Holyhead Coastguard received a mobile phone call from the wife of a Jet Skier who reported that he had gone aground on the Lavan sands around 12 :58pm. He requested lifeboat assistance when the jet ski re-floated. The Lifeboat launched to assist and crewman Leighton Jones motored the jet ski back to Gallows Point arriving back at 23:05 where the craft was recovered on to it's own trailer. |

It took some time to locate the casualty as he had reported his position as being close to Puffin Island. He was actually located a short distance from the Conwy Fairway Buoy. The Lifeboat towed this vessel to Conwy then returned to Station. |

This craft had gone aground earlier in the day and several occupants had gone ashore leaving the owner to await the incoming tide. He requested assistance in recovering the craft as it would be dark at that time. He was escorted to Gallows Point and assisted in the recovery on to his own trailer. |

Bay Holyhead Coastguard requested launch after receiving a call from the skipper of a charter boat stating that he had recovered a jet skier but was unable to recover a second one. The Lifeboat recovered the person in the water and transferred the other back to his jet ski. The jet ski was eventually restarted and the owner resumed activities weaving in and out of the moorings managing to fall off and breakdown in the process. He did manage to reach the slipway without further damage to himself or others ! |

After the Lifeboat crew helped to right the dinghy crewman Antony Robinson assisted the owner to sail back to the Gazelle jetty. The Lifeboat then returned to station. |

| Swellies Holyhead Coastguard requested launch after receiving a second call from the yacht ( previous service 51 ) The skipper of this yacht had now changed his mind as the strong incoming tide was threatening his safety. Crew member Antony Robinson was put aboard the casualty and a towline rigged. The yacht was pulled of the rock into deeper water as the tide rose. She was towed to a mooring off Menai Bridge and checked for any damage. The Lifeboat returned to station 23:40 pm. |

If the owner of this craft had reported the facts to the Coastguard this unnecessary launch would have been avoided. |

| Caernarfon The Lifeboat was launched both to test the replacement engine and also to return the owner to the speedboat aground off Caernarfon ( Service No. 48 ) One engine on the Lifeboat had failed earlier. The owner was put aboard and the anchor used recovered. This anchor had been borrowed from a yacht in Victoria Dock and was later returned. As stated previously this craft was poorly equipped. The casualty was then escorted in to Caernarfon Harbour. The Lifeboat then returned to station the early hours of the following morning. |

By the time the lifeboat arrived on scene the eight persons on board 4 adults and 4 children had reached the island. The casualty vessel was hard aground but appeared to be largely undamaged. The persons were picked up by the Lifeboat and taken to Beaumaris Lifeboat Station. Two adult crew of the speedboat were to return later when she re-floated. |

The vessel was towed to ABC Boatyard where the owner was assisted by Coastguards to recover the vessel. A mobile phone was used to request help and lifejackets were worn by all aboard. |

| Near Mermaid Inn. Holyhead Coastguard requested Beaumaris Lifeboat launch after the Police received a 999 call stating that a person intended to commit suicide near the Mermaid Inn. When the lifeboat arrived on scene they were asked to " stand off " as it was known that this individual was armed with two knives. He had been in the water but thought better of it and was now near naked, up a tree with his knives. After a while he jumped from the tree and headed inland pursued by the Police, dog handlers and their helicopter. This move finished our involvement and the lifeboat returned to station. |

Attempts to right the sailing dinghy were unsuccessful so the tow was continued to Beaumaris where the dinghy was beached and bailed out. It was then put on a trailer and towed to Anglesey Boat Company's yard for examination. |

| N/E Puffin Island Holyhead Coastguard requested Beaumaris Lifeboat launch to a capsized sailing dinghy North East of Puffin Island. Four people were reported to be in the water. The skipper of the charter boat " Starida" spotted the casualties in the water and with the help of his passengers managed to get them aboard. There were two adults and two children from the same family suffering severe hypothermia after apparently being in the water for approximately 3 hours. When the lifeboat arrived on scene crewman Guy Williams gave oxygen and CPR prior to the helicopter arriving on scene. Both the children were flown to Bangor Hospital by the RAF rescue helicopter from Valley. The youngest child died soon after admission and the Grandfather died on the Charter boat . The prompt action of the skipper from " Starida " undoubtedly saved the lives of the other two. Although all were wearing lifejackets the wind forecast should have prevented this small dinghy venturing out into open waters. |

It took 30 minutes to cut through the chain with a hacksaw which freed the cruiser. The cruiser was then taken in tow by another cruiser to Conwy and the Lifeboat returned to station. |

The lifeboat located the casualty on rocks by the flats . The casualty had fallen in the water as he was boarding his Cruiser. He was taken aboard the lifeboat, re-untited with his dinghy and both were taken to his Cruiser.. He was wearing a buoyancy aid and didn't need any further assistance. The Lifeboat then returned to station. |

| Pwllfanogl Holyhead Coastguard requested launch after receiving a report by a passenger boat of a body in the water off Vaynol Estate. The Lifeboat located the body on the foreshore opposite Pwllfanogl. This area is inaccessible so the lifeboat removed the body to the slipway at Pwllfanogl where they were joined by Bangor Coastguard. Holyhead Coastguard instructed the lifeboat to take the casualty to Beaumaris Lifeboat Station where the Police were waiting. The body was finally removed from the Station at 17:20. |

The crew attached a tow to the vessel and towed it to the marina at Victoria Dock where it was secured. The yacht was unoccupied and trailing part of it's mooring. After dealing with this incident the lifeboat attended a sunken fishing boat off the Mermaid Inn. The owner was nearby and stated that he did not need assistance. The Lifeboat returned to station. |

After finishing this search the Police requested a search of Waterloo Port to close the previous incident. Helmsman Barry Jones searched the pontoons - nothing found and the Lifeboat returned to Station. |

| Friars Bay Holyhead Coastguard requested launch after a call from a yacht stating that he had a crew member in the water. The yacht had run aground then lost his inflatable dinghy. The crew member, his wife, went over the side to recover the dinghy but both the dinghy and the wife were now taken by the ebbing tide. The Lifeboat recovered the person unhurt in the water three quarters of a mile away and returned her and the inflatable to the yacht. The lifeboat crew after deploying the yachts anchor returned to station leaving the yacht to re-float some hours later. |

| West of Puffin Island Holyhead Coastguard requested Beaumaris Lifeboat launch after receiving a call from a 32' Motor Cruiser with 3 people on board which stated that they were taking in a considerable amount of water at the stern of the vessel. It was discovered that the water entering the vessel only occurred when the engine was running as it had a burst cooling water pipe. Because of the seriousness of the incident Moelfre ALB was also launched but was stood down before she reached the casualty... Beaumaris Lifeboat towed the vessel to a mooring in Beaumaris Bay. |

Holyhead Coastguard requested launch after receiving a call on a mobile phone stating that a person in a rib was attempting to row across the channel between the Gazelle slipway and Bangor Pier. The Lifeboat located this rib and discovered that the occupant was worse the wear for drink. The person was taken aboard the Lifeboat and towed his rib to the slipway at Bangor Pier. Swellies. Holyhead Coastguard requested launch to a Motor Cruiser who had called for assistance as they were drifting in theSwellies with a mooring chain wrapped around their propeller. When the Lifeboat arrived on scene crewman Antony Robinson was put aboard to organise the tow. The vessel was towed to his marina berth where the propeller was removed by Antony Robinson which freed the chain. The Lifeboat then returned to Station. |

S/W 6 | North Great Orme. Holyhead Coastguard requested Beaumaris Lifeboat launch to a yacht 6 miles north west of the Great Orme with engine problems on a passage from Preston to Beaumaris. The Lifeboat put crew member Robert Charlton aboard to attach the tow and assist the crew of the vessel and commenced towing the vessel to Gallows Point Beaumaris. The yachts crew were unable to operate their fixed VHF and communications to the Coastguard were via a hand held radio. This service from start to finish took over three hours |

| Caernarfon Beaumaris Lifeboat was out on exercise when Holyhead Coastguard requested assistance to a yacht whose engine had failed off Caernarfon. The yacht was towed by the lifeboat to his mooring in Caernarfon Harbour. After the yacht had been dealt with the lifeboat investigated a prior request from the Coastguard to deal with a loose dinghy...also there was a possible suicide at Britannia Bridge. Both these incidents were resolved by other services... Two crew members from Moelfre Lifeboat were also aboard the exercise with Beaumaris Lifeboat . |

| The Swellies Holyhead Coastguard requested launch after receiving a call from the yacht owner ( previous service ) who was concerned that he might suffer damage on re-floating. The Lifeboat assisted the final re-floating with a tow and then towed the yacht past Britannia Bridge where the tide was less severe. The yacht then proceeded under her own power to Caernarfon with no damage reported. A salvage pump is carried to all groundings in the Swellies in case any vessel is taking in water. |

The lifeboat found the yacht hard aground on Swelly Rock. The yacht was well heeled over and no assistance was required at the time until the vessel re-floated at high tide so the Lifeboat returned to station. |

| Swellies Holyhead Coastguard requested Beaumaris launch after receiving calls from the public concerning a yacht aground on the rocks known as the " Platters " in the Swellies. When the Lifeboat arrived on scene the yacht was hard aground on the Platters but stated that he did not need assistance. In view of the yachts precarious position Holyhead Coastguard was asked by the Lifeboat Helmsman to task the mobile Coastguard to the scene to keep watch in case the vessel was damaged when it came off. The Lifeboat returned to station. The yacht was undamaged and able proceed to a mooring at the next high tide. |

| Penrhyn Mawr Holyhead Coastguard requested Beaumaris launch to assist a lone canoeist who had contacted them by a hand held VHF to request assistance as she was struggling with an offshore wind a quarter of a mile off what was thought to be Penmaenmawr. After launching it was quickly realized by Holyhead Coastguard that the actual position of the canoe was Penrhyn Mawr. Beaumaris Lifeboat was recalled and returned to station. |

| Menai Bridge. Holyhead Coastguard requested Beaumaris Lifeboat launch after a call from the Police saying that a person with a grievance was on the Menai Suspension Bridge chains. The Lifeboat " stood by " near Menai Bridge Pier until the tide receded and it became apparent that this person if they fell would land on the shore. The Lifeboat was released and returned to station at 12:28 pm. This problem was resolved around 16:00 when the person in question was persuaded to come down. |

| Moel - y - Don Holyhead Coastguard requested Beaumaris lifeboat launch to assist a 30' yacht which was aground. When the lifeboat arrived on scene a crewman was put aboard and a tow established. All the crew on the yacht stood on the starboard rail to heel the vessel and the lifeboat was able to tow them to deeper water. After the crewman was recovered the yacht was then able to proceed down the channel towards Caernarfon. |

| Menai Straits. Holyhead Coastguard requested that the Lifeboat start a search for a 24' Bayliner which was thought to be overdue as their vehicle and trailer had been left on Menai Bridge slipway. The Police computer was down so the Coastguards were unable to trace the vehicles owner. When the service was restored it was established that there was no cause for concern as the boats owner had been in contact with his home. |

| Aber Menai Point Shortly after launching to a fishing boat the starboard engine overheated and then seized. The Lifeboat continued towards the casualty area on one engine. It was decided to request that Trearddur Bay launch to take over this service. This was agreed and Beaumaris Lifeboat returned to station. A new engine was fitted and after sea trials the Lifeboat was reported to be ready for service by 22:30 hrs. |

Puffin Island Holyhead Coastguard requested Beaumaris Lifeboat launch in response to a " Pan Pan " call from a motor vessel which had hit a rock and damaged his propeller. When the Lifeboat arrived on scene the Customs vessel " Vigilante " had responded to the call and launched his rib so that they could speak to the casualty. The Vigilante was then released and the Lifeboat established a tow. The motor cruiser was towed to a safe mooring in Beaumaris Bay. |

Bangor Pier Holyhead Coastguard requested Beaumaris Lifeboat launch in response to a 999 call about a capsized craft near Bangor Pier. The Lifeboat located the vessel off Penrhyn Dock. The craft was found to be a flat paint barge with no persons on board which had broken free. It was towed to Beaumaris Lifeboat Station. The barge had markings on it identifying the owner who was then contacted to arrange collection. |

The Lifeboat conducted an extensive search of both banks downstream of the bridge as far as Bangor Pier.The Police helicopter and Bangor Mobile also took part.
